Cultures in Our Classroom!
In Social Studies today we spoke about our cultures and nationalities! The children thought it was amazing that we all come from different countries and backgrounds. They could not believe that all of these cultures were in one classroom! Students loved hearing about the places that their classmates grandparents or parents came from. Some of us can even speak different languages! It was a great exploration day for all of us today! Below there is a picture of flags which represent all of the cultures in our classroom. Each student in the class today made a self-portrait with their nationality depicted as a flag on their t-shirt. Students were so amazed to see that all of these different cultures work together to create an amazing classroom community!

Our New Friend!
This morning in my school bag I found a special surprise! It was an Elf!! I received strict instructions to bring her to school so that I could share her with my class! Since we have been learning about bar graphs, we decided to do a survey of Elf Names! As a class we voted on which name we thought was the best, …. and the winner is……. SNOWFLAKE! After finishing our tally chart we made a bar graph displaying the information we gathered! We are so excited that Snowflake is here with us to spend the holidays! We are on our extra best behaviour because we know she reports back to both Santa, and Jesus!
Venturing into Advent
This past Sunday marked the beginning of the first week of Advent. Students learned that the first purple candle was lit on Sunday and it signifies Hope. Each week another candle will be lit until December 25, the day of Jesus' birth. Candles symbolize Hope, Peace, Joy and Love.
Crazy About Christmas!
With the Christmas season upon us, the students have completed their Santa letters. It was very important that we not only included things that we wanted from Santa, but also things that we wished for other boys and girls around the world that are less fortunate than we are. Wishes included things like clean food and water, a healthy family and an education.
Going Bananas for Bar Graphs!
In our Data Management Unit we have moved on to bar graphs. We have graphed our favourite foods, shirts and names so far! Students are getting a hang of making their own graphs as well as filling in graphs as a class!

Healthy Eating
In health class we have been focusing on healthy eating. We have done many activities which have outlined the four food groups. We have categorized food that we eat every day within their respected food group. We also collected grocery store flyers and made our own healthy food posters. Here are some of our slogans!
Diwali
The first international celebration we have learned about is Diwali! Diwali is celebrated in India and is also known as the Festival of Lights. We created our own fireworks as a symbol of Diwali. We also watched a short video which illustrated the colourful festivities that happen within Indian culture.
